Taksindu Free Health Camp 2018 was again made possible by Karma Sherpa and Dr. Gary Botstein along with the help of Sherpa Mountain Adventure. After the devastating earthquake of 2015, the free health camp was started from 2015 with the motive of providing the free healthcare to the people living in the Solukhumbu.
Through the help of Karma Sherpa who is a CEO and trek leader of Sherpa Mountain Adventures, I was able to work as a coordinator in Taksindu Free Health Camp 2018. It was held on November 7, 8 and 9 in Taksindu Monastery area and Taksindu Primary School (rebuilt after 2015 earthquake by Sherpa Mountain Adventure). The free healthcare was given to more than 1300 people living in different part of Solukhumbu region along with free transportation service provided by Sherpa Mountain Adventure. Karma Sherpa and Dr. Gary Botstein recruited nearly 50 physicians, nurses, translators and volunteers from USA and Nepal. Even a pharmacy was made for this health camp.
In this health camp, the people were given a services of eye-care, dentist, general checkup and few more. Among these services, eye-care was a huge achievement where nearly 1100 prescription glasses were provided to the patients. Among the eye patient, a women of 20 years old was provided with one prosthetic eye. Though the camp has been done 2 times before also but there hadn’t been a free healthcare provided to this numbers of people by nearly 50 physicians, nurses, translators and volunteers from USA and Nepal.
